![]() ![]() It takes four to six hours for the shop to warm up depending on the outside temp. It's fine for me because I'm usually standing right under the heater but on cold mornings, I really feel it when I walk away. The heat is off at night and only turned up to 55F while I'm in there. It's attached to another shop, unheated, by a pair of swinging doors that aren't even close to being sealed. I hope there's some kind of air adjustment or I likely have the wrong orifice.īry, the shop is about 25X30 with "some" insulation in the ceiling only. I blew out the inside with compressed air so I don't think it's spider webs. Rusty, This one uses shop air for combustion so it's not that. I'll take a look at it this week and see what I can figure out. Considering the size I consider my heating bills quite reasonable It has 2x4 walls and is insulated with r 28 in the ceiling. Next summer had the gas installed and in the winter probably in the $50 to $75 a month and the shop is heated continually. 28 days later I was hit for another $380 and this was the average for the next 4 months of that first winter. They delivered 2 large tanks 3 days later and cost $435 to fill both. I contacted the propane people and was informed my heating would cost about 10% more than natural gas. They suggested I would have to wait until spring. ![]() My first winter I was unable to get natural gas as I am on a mainline and they had increased the pressure as they do every winter. I have a Schwank, 135,000 BTU radiant tube. My shop is 28 x 48 and the ceiling is 18 ft in the middle. and would like to know how much propane it would take to heat my shop for the season. I am wanting to install a tube heater also on propane and was wondering if you could give me as much information on the costs of running this system. I don't know if NG could do the same thing. If anyone here has a similar system, I suggest you check it at some point so you can avoid this problem. I assume it's running too rich but that's just a guess. My questions are, is this Typical of a propane heater? I don't think it is but what do I know. I really don't want to have to do this again. Of course everything in the shop has a layer of black soot on it now. I cleaned it out as best I could and now it's working fine. What I found was the entire pipe, from the power head out to the exhaust end, had a thick coat of soot (a good 1/2" thick) covering the whole of the inside of the tube. I disconnected the exhaust pipe and had a look for a birds nest or wasp nest or something that might be plugging it. There's not much to these other than a fan and a flame and since it looked like there was plenty of flame I figured it had to be a problem with the air. It ran all day and barely got warm in the shop. Last week I noticed it wasn't working as well as it should. I have a propane fired radiant tube heater in my shop at work. ![]()
